My AirTags, AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Pro Max indicate that Find My Device is active.
When attempting to set up an Apple device such as AirPods, an object like an AirTag, or other accessories for the "Find My" network, but receiving a message that it is linked to another Apple ID, it may be necessary to perform a reset.
Resetting an AirTag:
Here's how to reset your AirTag:
- Press down on the polished stainless steel battery cover of your AirTag, and twist the cover counterclockwise until it no longer turns.
- Remove the cover and the battery.*
- Reinsert the battery.
- Press on the battery until you hear a sound. This sound indicates that the battery is connected.
- If the sound stops, repeat the process of removing and reinserting the battery and pressing on the battery four more times until you hear a sound. You should hear a sound each time you press on the battery, for a total of five tones. The fifth tone will be different from the previous four. This indicates that the AirTag is now ready to pair.
- Reattach the cover by aligning the three tabs of the cover with the three slots on your AirTag.
- Press the cover down.
- Twist the cover clockwise until it no longer turns.
Resetting AirPods and AirPods Pro:
- Place the AirPods in the charging case and close the lid.
- Wait for 30 seconds.
- Open the lid of the charging case and place the AirPods in your ears.
- Select "Settings" > "Bluetooth". Alternatively, select "Settings" > [Your AirPods].
- If your AirPods are shown as connected, tap next to the AirPods on the "More information" button, then on "Forget This Device", and finally to confirm once again.
- If your AirPods are not visible there, proceed to the next step.
- Place the AirPods in the charging case and leave the lid open.
- Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for approximately 15 seconds until the status indicator on the front of the case flashes yellow and then white.
- Reconnect the AirPods by bringing the AirPods located in the open charging case close to the iPhone or iPad. Follow the instructions on the device's screen.
- Here's how to restart or reset the AirPods Max:
- First, charge the AirPods Max for a few minutes.
- If you are experiencing issues with the AirPods Max, you can restart them. Press and hold the noise control button and the Digital Crown until the LED flashes yellow.
- You can also reset the AirPods Max to factory settings. Press and hold the noise control button and the Digital Crown for 15 seconds until the LED flashes first yellow and then white.
